Disc Replay was built on simple but powerful values that guide everything we do:
Treasure Every Customer
From day one, John Chesny valued each person who walked through the door. That spirit of appreciation still drives our stores today.
Passion for Entertainment
We share our customers’ love for games, movies, music, and electronics. Our stores are fueled by the same excitement that brings fans together.
Opportunity for All
From loyal employees who become owners to customers who turn collections into cash, we believe in creating opportunities for growth and success.
These values come to life through our Three Uniques:
We Pay More & We Sell for Less
We keep entertainment affordable. Our prices are lower than the competition, and our trade-in process is transparent and fair—you always know what you’re getting.
Mega Selection
From retro classics to the latest releases, every visit feels like a treasure hunt. With thousands of games, movies, music, and electronics in stock, there’s always something new to discover.
Great Experience
Disc Replay isn’t just a store—it’s a place where fans feel at home. Our family-friendly atmosphere and passionate team create a fun, welcoming environment for everyone.
Our Story
In 1994, at just 30 years old, John Chesny opened the very first Disc Replay in Downers Grove, Illinois. Armed with 2,700 used CDs stacked in cardboard boxes on folding tables, a $99 cash register, and a dream, John welcomed his first customers. That first day, he sold just six CDs.
“I was devastated,” John recalls. “I had given up a good job and put everything I had into this humble store.”
The early months were tough. With no employees, John worked open to close every day, surviving on homemade sandwiches while loyal customers sometimes brought him lunch out of kindness. He was on the edge of bankruptcy, but his commitment to valuing every single customer became the foundation of Disc Replay’s culture.
Word of mouth slowly grew, and by the mid-90s, John opened a second store in Crest Hill, Illinois. Expansion continued steadily, one location at a time, fueled by John’s passion and the support of loyal customers.
By 2007, John had built a strong base of stores in Illinois and Indiana, but with limited hours in the day, he turned to what he knew best: franchising. That same year, the first Disc Replay franchisees joined the family, helping the brand expand into Michigan, Indiana, and beyond.
Through trial, perseverance, and even a few experiments (including the quirky Super Mega Replay concept that once sold everything from video games to dog cages), Disc Replay grew into a thriving community of stores.
By 2024, Disc Replay celebrated 30 years in business with 35 stores across six states. Ready to pass the torch, John chose not to sell to investors or corporations. Instead, he entrusted the company to the people who knew it best: a group of longtime franchisees led by Nick Leja and Nathan Abner.
Today, Disc Replay continues to grow under the names Disc Replay, Mega Replay, Super Mega Replay, and Disc Traders—with loyal customers now bringing their kids (and even grandkids) to discover the same joy they experienced decades ago. In 2025, the Replay family expanded even further with the first Georgia location in Kennesaw, with more stores on the horizon.
Looking back, John sums up his philosophy simply:
Treasure your employees, and treasure your customers—without them, you’re nothing.
